Cleartrip Bus — booking and what comes after

Rethinking the flow of the bus booking and post-booking experience. Five days, two designers, and a category with far messier supply than flights.

The call I made

Put seats, amenities, policies and reviews on one screen rather than a stepped flow — accepting a denser screen so nobody has to hold the previous answer in their head while looking at the next one.

Five days, two designers. Deciding what not to explore was most of the job.

I owned

  • My half of the booking and post-booking flow

I partnered on

  • The second designer on the project, and our manager
  • A five-day timeline with the bus team

Where the judgment was

  • One screen over a stepped flow
  • Deciding what not to explore inside five days

About

This project was part of the Cleartrip bus team, with the goal of making it easier to book bus tickets. Finding buses, checking their details and making a booking may seem straightforward — but we wanted to enhance the overall experience, and the category makes that harder than it looks. Operators vary in quality far more than airlines do, seats aren't interchangeable, boarding points are scattered across a city, and cancellation terms differ by operator.

I was part of a dedicated team of two designers, led by our manager, with the whole effort inside a tight five-day timeline.

What we changed

Detailed cards

The card displays all the vital information, making it easy to compare and choose. Essential details are emphasised so a traveller can quickly identify what actually matters for picking the right bus — rather than touring every option to find out.

All in one screen

Seat selection, bus amenities, cancellation policies and user reviews on a single screen — a crucial and transparent set for informed decision-making before boarding. These are the four things people weigh together, and splitting them across steps forces you to hold the earlier answer in your head while looking at the next.

Review your booking

A confirmation step before payment — pick-up and drop-off point, seat, travellers, cancellation and booking policy, total. A bus ticket has more easily-mistaken details than most bookings, and the cheapest place to catch an error is before the money moves.

Happy to walk through the parts that didn't work, too.
